Big Bass Boat

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Big Bass Boat surprised me. I expected a quick tap-and-reel timewaster and got something a lot more patient. You start with a battered dinghy and a cheap rod, and most of the early game is learning where fish actually gather depending on the time of day and the weather the game throws at you.

The casting works with a single flick, and the reeling mini-game asks you to keep tension in a green band without snapping the line. It sounds simple, but bigger catches fight back in ways that made me lean into the screen more than once. Money you earn goes straight back into rods, lures, and eventually a proper boat with a bigger engine, which opens up new lakes and coastal spots.

What kept me coming back was the rhythm of it. Ten minutes on a train, a couple of casts, one good catch, and I felt like I'd done something. It's not a deep RPG, but the upgrade loop is honest and the ambient sound is genuinely relaxing.
